ERIK A. MADSEN, PE
Erik has extensive experience in the design and construction of new building structures, adaptive reuse projects, property condition assessment and the design of temporary structures for construction. His adventurous nature and collaborative skills have enabled his engineering expertise to assist many creative minds and projects.
Mr Madsen worked briefly at Bowman, Barrett & Associates, a renowned bridge design firm in Chicago prior to pursuing his graduate degree in California. He relocated to New York in 2001 and worked at DeSimone Consulting Engineering.
Erik has taught at a number of schools and universities, and he is currently a visiting professor at Pratt Institute. His renovation course at NYU’s Schack school of continuing education is one of the most popular and intellectually rigorous courses in their continuing education department. Erik has worked on buildings from every decade since the mid-1800’s through the present and he continues to develop new methods of assisting designers and owners reach their goals with existing structures.
Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Erik volunteered and performed building assessments on a large number of structures, including an 11-story reinforced concrete building that was the second tallest in the Haitian capital, Port Au Prince. He continues to volunteer structural engineering services part time for reconstruction projects in Haiti, South America and Africa.
CRISTIAN S. VIMER, PHD, PE
Cristian has over 15 years of experience in structural design and management of complex projects. Cristian's expertise is in design and construction of new building structures, but also in renovation, adaptive reuse and preservation of historical buildings. Besides his structural engineering work he is involved in research projects, related to structural degradation and he has taught as an adjunct professor various courses at Polytechnic Institute of NYU.
He holds a PhD in Structural Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of NYU, and a MS from the Technical University of Civil Engineering, Bucharest, Romania. His doctoral thesis, NIR Fiber Optic Spectroscopy for Evaluation of Civil Engineering Materials, was very well received by the scientific community. He published several articles in prestigious journals such as Cement and Concrete Research, ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, NDT&E International. He continues to collaborate with NYU Poly on developing sensing solutions for the infrastructures (carried on by VM Technology).
Prior to founding this company, Cristian was a Principal and the Head of the Special Projects Group at Wexler Associates. The group was responsible for design and coordination of the most challenging projects, including special wind and seismic design, redevelopment of landmark sites, projects requiring New York City Transit Authority or Port Authority of NY and NJ approval.
